Kokusai Kogyo submits its commitment letter to the SBTi to help achieve global net-zero emissions by 2050
October 4, 2023
Kokusai Kogyo has submitted its commitment letter to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)※ — declaring its science-based targets to reach net-zero value chain greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
In order to help achieve the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5℃ above pre-industrial levels, and as a first step toward its long-term science-based targets, Kokusai Kogyo has set its target of reducing GHG emissions for all of its subsidiaries to effectively zero by 2050, reaching net-zero. Thus, Kokusai Kogyo will strive to acquire the “SBT Net-Zero” certification in line with the SBTi Corporate Net-Zero Standard.
In September 2021, Kokusai Kogyo’s targets for GHG emissions reduction (Scope 1 and Scope 2) and supplier engagement (Scope 3) were validated by the SBTi as being science-based targets for the achievement of the 1.5℃ goal.

Kokusai Kogyo will contribute to the creation of a sustainable society through its near-term science-based targets, which have already received validation, and its long-term targets that Kokusai Kogyo will systematically apply to realize its goal of net-zero by 2050.
※ The SBTi is a global collaboration between CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project), the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), working to mobilize businesses and other organizations to set net-zero science-based targets consistent with scientific knowledge in line with a 1.5°C and net-zero future.
