Kokusai Kogyo’s climate target validated by SBTi

Kokusai Kogyo’s science-based targets, covering all of its group companies, were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)※1 on September 11, 2021, as GHG emissions reduction goals in line with limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

<Absolute emissions reduction target>
Kokusai Kogyo commits to reduce absolute scopes 1, 2 and scope 3 business travel, employee commuting, and use of sold products GHG emissions 50% by FY2030 from a FY2019 base year.

<Supplier engagement target>
Kokusai Kogyo also commits that 65% of its suppliers by emissions covering purchased goods and services and capital goods, will have science-based targets by FY2026.

   Scope 1: 1,523 t-CO2e
   Scope 2 (market based): 3,961 t-CO2e
   Scope 3: 67,484 t-CO2e

※2 Scope 1: Direct emissions from owned or controlled sources (e.g. the burning of fuel)
    Scope 2: Indirect emissions from the generation of purchased electricity, steam, heating and cooling
    Scope 3: All other indirect emissions in the value chain (e.g. by companies other than Kokusai Kogyo)


Kokusai Kogyo has previously signaled support of the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) created by the Financial Stability Board (FSB), and will now commence climate-related disclosure in line with the TCFD framework.
