Sandra Wu, Wen-Hsiu, Chairperson and CEO of Kokusai Kogyo Co., Ltd. was re-appointed to the Board of the United Nations Global Compact.

The United Nations (UN) Global Compact acts as the United Nations flagship for responsible business action. Announced at the 1999 World Economic Forum annual meeting by then UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and launched in 2000, it is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world.
Organizations and businesses participate in the UN Global Compact by committing, at the corporate leadership level, to align strategies and operations with the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact: a set of universal principles covering human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and take actions that advance societal goals. The UN Global Compact counts more than 13,000 businesses in over 161 countries as members, including 409 organizations from Japan (as of 6 May 2021).

Members of the UN Global Compact Board are appointed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and champions the advancement of the Global Compact’s mission and the Sustainable Development Goals among businesses and stakeholders. Sandra Wu’s re-appointment follows her initial three-year appointment to the Board on June 20, 2018.
